Woman, six children in Old Town area suffer electric shock

A woman and six children suffered an electric shock in a freak incident in the Old Town area e on Saturday.

According to sources, grand-daughters of Ramani (50), M. Saranya (14), M. Nivetha (13) and M. Sowmya (12), along with their relatives A. Prasanth (14), A. Dhanush (10) and R. Santhosh (8) were playing on the open terrace of a house on Mohan Singh Street.

When Dhanush playfully touched an overhead live wire, he received an electric shock. Hearing his screams, the other children and Ramani went to his rescue. However, they too suffered an electric shock and were thrown off the terrace. The neighbours immediately took them to Cuddalore government headquarters hospital.

Dhanush, who suffered severe burns in the left arm, was referred to Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai. Nivetha and Sowmya were referred to the JIPMER hospital, Puducherry.

The rest of them were admitted at the Cuddalore government headquarters hospital.
