Woman killed, 16 passengers hurt as omnibus overturns

A woman was killed and 16 passengers injured in an accident near Arasankulam in early hours on Sunday. An omni-bus, in which they were travelling, bound for Nagercoil from Chennai, overturned after the driver lost control of it and hit the median on bypass road.

The deceased was identified as Kanista (49), wife of Sahayadurai, Thoothur in Kanyakumari district. Among the injured, six victims were admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital and they were said to be out of danger, Kayathar Inspector of Police M. Udhayasuryan said.

On a complaint lodged by Sibi alias Leo Frank (24), son of the deceased, Kayathar police have filed a case.

Ambulance van crew injured

In a subsequent incident, another private omni bus to Tirunelveli hit an ‘108’ ambulance van, from which some persons were rescuing the accident victims, leaving the ambulance van driver, V. Muthuselvan (39) of Kumaragiri and S. Sudha (26), an emergency crew member, injured.

While the injured driver Muhuselvan was admitted to Tirunelveli Government Hospital, Sudha was admitted to Kovilpatti Government Head Quarters Hospital.
