Woman cheated

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Tirupur:

The police on Monday arrested three persons on the charges of robbing G. Poovathal (53), a resident of Gandhi Nagar in the city, of Rs. 2 lakh.

The arrested were: K. Senthil Kumar alias Alavudeen (39), and G. Thyagarajan (68), both hailing from Kumbakonam; and N. Karunakaran (63), a land broker from Tirupur.

The police said that they approached the woman with a promise of doubling currency notes by way of some rituals.

They handed over a bundle of black papers and a bottle of liquid to her stating that if she applied the liquid over the paper it would turn into bank notes.

They asked the woman to handover Rs. 2 lakh to perform a puja before applying the ‘magic liquid’ on the black papers.

After diverting the attention of the woman, they ran away with the money.
