A woman fed up of fighting the officialdom to get the amount she deserved under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) for couple of years in vain attempted self-immolation in the Collectorate here on Monday.

Indira (47) of Mattathari village got a sanction to construct a house under the IAY scheme for her family in 2012-13. As per the sanctioned amount she was supposed to get Rs. 1.2 lakh from the government but she claimed that she received only Rs. 50,000 till now. Her attempts to get the remaining amount failed according to her. Hence she decided to take the extreme step.

She came to the Collectorate along with her two daughters and attempted to pour kerosene on her when the cops caught hold of her and produced before District Revenue Officer S. Palani who assured her to look into the issue.
