The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation has proposed Rs.4,000-crore project to set up a special corridor for wind power transmission.
Chairman of the corporation C.P. Singh told reporters here on Tuesday that it was proposed to connect Khaitar, Aralvaimozhi, Theni and Udumalpet through the special corridor.
The project also envisages setting up six 400 KVA sub-stations and land has been purchased in two locations for the sub-stations.
“Works will start shortly,” he said.
The State currently has infrastructure to evacuate power from existing windmills. However, if more windmills are to be added, the infrastructure should be strengthened, he said. The State now had 5,800 MW installed capacity for wind energy.
