Water to be released for five days from Sathanur dam

Farmers had sought additional water to harvest paddy

Additional water is being released for five days from the Sathanur Dam following requests from farmers. Starting Monday, additional water will be released through the right and left bank canals of the dam to irrigate 45,000 acres of land in 100 villages – 46 in Tiruvannamalai district and 54 in Villupuram district.

According to a press release, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sevur S. Ramachandran released water from the dam on Monday. Collector K.S. Kandasamy was present.

Limited quantity

Water from the dam was released from February 2 to May 8 to irrigate 45,000 acres of land. Following this, farmers put forward a request that additional water will be required for five days to harvest paddy crops after a gap from May 8 to 14.

Following their request, water is being released from May 14 to 19. While 350 cusecs of water will be released through the left bank canal, 220 cusecs of water will be released through the right bank canal.
