Water supply once in four days from April 9

To overcome water shortage in the city, the Madurai Corporation has decided to limit supply to once in four days from April 9. In some wards, water will be supplied as early as 2:30 a.m.

This decision was taken in view of the falling water level in Vaigai dam. The Corporation has prepared a timetable for water supply to each ward.

In a press statement, Commissioner S. Aneesh Sekhar asked the residents to use water judiciously. They should ensure that water was stored adequately and safely to last till the next turn of supply.

The Corporation had reduced water supply in summer months in the past too. In 2017, Madurai faced one of the worst water crises and residents of several areas, particularly the newly added wards, had several complaints about “mismanagement of weekly supply.”

This time, water distribution through lorries would continue. Rainfall in the catchment areas of Vaigai dam could improve the city’s water situation.

The Commissioner said residents with complaints on the quality of drinking water could contact engineers of their respective wards.
