Residents of Keezhmottukkur panchayat in K.V.Kuppam block have complained of drinking water scarcity in three villages for the last six months.

On Monday, the residents flocked to the Collector’s office to put forward their grievance to officials during the weekly public grievance redressal day meeting. They said residents of three villages in the panchayat – Sendrampalli, Velleri and Ramanathapuram – were facing hardship due to lack of drinking water facility.

Govindaraj, a resident said, the borewells in the villages have gone dry and the villagers were struggling to meet their water requirements, for agriculture and livestock.

“We had also sunk a borewell for 600 feet but there was no water,” he said. There were nearly 150 houses at Sendrampalli, 50 at Velleri and 60 at Ramanathapuram, he added.

Residents, in their petition, said the panchayat had no source for revenue generation and was dependent on funds from the government to fulfil the basic facilities of the villages. They urged the district administration to allot funds and provide adequate drinking water facilities for the villages.
