An announcement on its implementation across schools will be made soon by School Education department

To ensure that students are healthy and hydrated, ten minute breaks at regular intervals will be given between classes for them to drink water, said K.A. Sengottaiyan, the School Education Minister.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Children’s Day celebrations organised at St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School , he said that an announcement about how to implement this system across schools will be made soon by the department.

“We want to ensure the children are healthy and we are taking steps towards ensuring there is adequate drinking water available across schools as well,” he said.

While Kerala already has a system of ringing a ‘water bell’ which serves as a reminder for students to drink water, Karnataka government too announced this week that they will be having water bells rung in schools.

As part of the Children’s Day celebrations, several schools from across the city put up cultural programmes which included folk dance and music performances. Prizes were distributed to children who had participated in elocution, painting and writing competitions which had been conducted to mark the day as well.
