Waste management in Salem city: consultant appointed

The City Municipal Corporation has appointed a Bangalore-based private consultant to prepare a project report for the integrated solid waste management scheme.

Solid waste management includes door-to-door collection of municipal solid waste from all households, commercial establishments and hotels, segregating it into degradable and non-degradable waste, scientific disposal of the collected waste, establishing scientific inert pits, purchase of necessary vehicles and gadgets for collection and transportation of waste.

Currently, about 350 tonnes to 400 tonnes of solid waste was being collected from the 60 wards in the corporation limits.

The civic body has obtained permission from Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Chennai to appoint the consultant.

Technical and financial bids were received from four private consultants based in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida, and Bangalore.

Consultants from Noida, and Bangalore were found eligible and were asked to submit consultancy charges.

The Bangalore-based consultant wanted a consultancy charge of Rs. 18 lakh, while the Noida-based consultant Rs. 20.20 lakh.

The city corporation council had passed a resolution at a meeting held on Wednesday.

The fee to prepare a report is Rs. 18 lakh
