The internal committee constituted under senior IPS officer Seema Agarwal to enquire into sexual harassment complaint filed by a SP-level woman officer against IG-level officer, has transferred the complaint to Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) for registration of a criminal case and investigation.

Following a plea of the aggrieved woman officer, the Committee has decided that considering sensitive nature of case, "it would be just and proper to forward the complaint to CB CID for registration of a criminal case and investigation."

Recently, a woman Superintendent of Police in a written complaint against her superior claimed that she was subjected to mental and physical sexual harassment by him over a period of time. In the letter, the SP said she was proceeding on medical leave, and sought to initiate criminal action against the Chennai-based Joint Director she had to report to.

Following this, the police department formed a committee to enquire into complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace and redress the grievances of such victims.
