Villagers of Jawadhi Rama Samuthiram in Natrampalli union have petitioned to the district administration to take up works to repair the bund of a lake that is brimming with water.

They said the bund was weak and posing a danger to the surrounding hamlets.

The lake in the village is spread for an area of about 530 acres.

There were 10 hamlets in the surrounding – Narayanapuram, Colony vattam, Mollaivattam, Pamadi vattam, Naidu vattam, Jawadhi Rama Samuthiram, Sendhakamana Kollai, Madhuvu Kollai vattam, Melnaidu vattam and Panathoppu vattam.

Irrigates crops in 100 acres

The villagers said crops raised in 100 acres were being irrigated with water from the lake. The villagers had approached officials to take up works to repair and strengthen the bund. Though works to construct a retaining wall and maintenance were taken up at the lake a few years ago, officials were now saying that there were not aware of any available records on the lake except for a map, they said.

“The bund has been damaged at two places. Water has started to seep out from the lake. This poses a danger to our villages and agricultural lands as the lake is brimming with water,” said Vibusan, a villager.

They submitted a petition to the district administration on Monday to take up works to strengthen the bund.
