Vibrant celebrations in delta districts

Commendation certificates given to 15 police officials and 81 government employees in Tiruvarur

With the Cauvery flowing in all its majesty lifting spirits and hopes of a good agricultural season, the Independence Day was celebrated in a cheerful way in the delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam on Wednesday.

Collectors of respective districts hoisted the tricolour, took the salute at ceremonial march past and accepted the guard of honour. Colour and gaiety marked the celebrations as students presented an array of cultural performances.

In Thanjavur, Collector A.Annadurai unfurled the national flag at the celebrations held at the Armed Reserve grounds and honoured freedom fighters. He distributed welfare assistance worth ₹1.70 crore to 424 beneficiaries under various government welfare schemes. Over 500 school students presented a cultural pageant. J.Loganathan, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Thanjavur Range, and T.Senthil Kumar, Superintendent of Police, were present.

Tiruvarur Collector L.Nirmal Raj hoisted the tricolour at the district stadium and reviewed the guard of honour. He felicitated 11 freedom fighters and adorned them with shawls.

He distributed commendation certificates to 15 police officials and 81 government employees. Welfare assistance worth ₹38.85 lakhs was distributed to 57 beneficiaries. Superintendent of Police V.Vikraman was present.

In Nagapattinam, Collector S.Suresh Kumar took the salute at a colourful march past after hoisting the national flag at the district stadium. C.Vijaya Kumar, Superintendent of Police, was present.

He distributed medals and commendation certificates to 36 persons, including government servants and sports persons. Sixty-three beneficiaries were given welfare assistance worth ₹1.65 crore. As a token of appreciation, eight freedom fighters were honoured during the celebration. Students of schools and colleges regaled the audience with cultural performances.
