Unmarried women get gold, financial assistance worth ₹21 crore

T.N. remains at forefront in welfare schemes for women’s uplift, says Vellore Collector

Tamil Nadu remains at the forefront in extending and implementing welfare schemes for the uplift of women, said District Collector A. Shanmuga Sundram.

He was addressing beneficiaries at a function organised in Vellore for the distribution of gold and financial assistance to unmarried women as part of the ‘Thalikku Thangam’ scheme on Saturday.

Mr. Shanmuga Sundram distributed 8-gram gold coins to 3,000 beneficiaries besides giving away ‘marriage assistance’ to the unmarried women. The total amount allocated for the purpose was ₹21.26 crores.

As many as 992 women who had studied upto 10th standard and 12th standard were given ₹25,000 as ‘marriage assistance’, plus a 8-gram gold coin.

Likewise, graduates and diploma holders were given ₹50,000 and a 8-gram gold coin.

‘T.N. at the front’

In his address, Mr. Shanmuga Sundram said that Tamil Nadu is at the forefront in implementing 33% reservation for women, which other States are trying to emulate. He urged women to uplift themselves as well as to strive hard and improve the livelihood of other women.
