University inks pact with IIT Bombay

To collaborate on spoken tutorial project which offers software training on using open source software, Periyar University and Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT – Bombay) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the university premises here on Wednesday.

The project is the initiative of the ‘Talk to a Teacher’ activity of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. The MoU provides a framework for both Periyar University and IIT Bombay.

Speaking on the occasion, C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University, remarked that online learning opportunities and the use of open educational resources and other technologies have transformed the educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning.

The modern ICT tools empower learning among the students and faculty.

The MoU will allow both the institutes to proactively collaborate in promoting IT literacy among the students and faculty on utilising the open source software which is highly conducive to self-learning, he added.
