The University Grants Commission has sanctioned fund to the tune of Rs. 2.38 crore under its Special Assistance Programme (SAP) to Periyar University for executing various development works.
Proposals
Various Departments of the University submitted proposals to the UGC seeking fund under the SAP in the recent past.
The UGC accepted the proposal submitted by the Department of Chemistry and sanctioned Rs. 1.12 crore special grant.
This fund would be utilised for modernising the chemistry laboratory, besides creation of two research fellowships, C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, said in a statement issued here on Thursday.
The Department of Mathematics had got an assistance of Rs. 80.5 lakh from the UGC.
This fund would be earmarked for the setting up of a computer centre, upgrading the department library, launching research projects in the subjects of Algebra and Graph Theory and publication of research papers in national and international journals.
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communications was yet another University department which had been sanctioned financial assistance.
The UGC sanctioned Rs. 46 lakh, the Vice-Chancellor said adding that the same would be utilised to improve infrastructure in the department, undertaking projects and field trips.
