Anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project struggle committee convener S.P. Udayakumar sent a legal notice to Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy demanding an apology for making an allegation that the NGO run by him had received foreign funds to the tune of Rs. 1.50 crore.
“If you do not publish your apology within 3 days from the date of receipt of this notice my client will be forced to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings against you at your costs,” said advocate M. Radhakrishan, who had sent the notice, on Tuesday, on behalf of Mr. Udayakumar.
Terming the allegation “totally false,” the notice said the Minister had not even given the name of the NGO which was said to have received foreign funds.
“The allegation of yours is an imputation which directly, in the estimation of the members of the public, lowers the moral character of my client and also lowers the credit of my client. By making such imputation, you have not only harmed my client's reputation but have also acted contrary to public interest,” the notice said and accused Mr. Narayanasamy of committing an offense punishable under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
