Two picked up for sending threat letter

The rural police on Monday picked up two persons from Omalur area for sending a threat letter that a 15-member ISIS team is planning to derail trains on August 15.

Assistant Commissioner Govindaraj on June 5 received a letter that members of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) team is planning to derail trains near Mecheri on Salem – Mettur section. The letter also mentioned the name of team members.

Inquiries by RPF and the rural police revealed that the names of the persons mentioned in the letter belong to Tholasampatti.

Group clash

In the year 2000, group clash took place between groups in the village and the police have registered case against 20 persons.

Their names were mentioned in the letter. Hence, the police suspected that persons related to the clash could have written the letter.

Based on inquiries, two persons were picked up for questioning.
