India Posts on Friday commissioned ATMs at Erode, and Bhavani Head Post Offices.
The two ATMs figure among the 15 planned in Tamil Nadu Postal Circle.
In the Western region, the first ATM was already opened in Coimbatore Head Post Office.
Manju P. Pillai, Postmaster General, Western Region, Tamil Nadu Circle, opened the ATMs in Erode division.
Post offices networked by Core Banking Solution Finnacle enables Post Office Savings Bank customers at any of the networked offices to operate their accounts and get account related services.
The customers gain the utility of Internet banking, mobile banking, and phone banking.
Features of India Post ATM constitute free ATM cards for post office account holders with a minimum balance of Rs. 5,000, instant issuance of the cards, and withdrawal of a maximum of Rs. 25,000 a transaction. The service will not be available on Sunday.
Out of 100 India Post ATMs sanctioned for Tamil Nadu Circle, locations for establishing 21 have been identified in the Western Region, Ms. Manju Pillai told reporters here.
The facility will gradually be extended to rural parts. India Post has the advantage of presence at 1.3 lakh rural locations, most of them uncovered by services of commercial banks.
Small savings for common man has been the strength of India Post.
There are currently 70 lakh account holders in Western region. Last year, 12.5 lakh new account holders were added. This financial year, a 20 per cent growth in the number is expected, the Postmaster General said.
