Two persons were electrocuted when they were erecting a commercial banner near Palani central bus stand on Wednesday.

The deceased were Mohammad Mustafa of Palani and Ram from Assam.

Three other workers, who sustained grievous injuries owing to the electric shock, have been admitted to Palani Government Hospital for treatment.

Police said the metal frame of the giant banner came into contact with a live electric wire while they were lifting the banner for erection. While the two were charred to death, the three others were thrown off the ladder they were standing on and sustained injuries.
