Two construction workers were killed after a landslip in the construction site in Yercaud here on Monday evening.

The incident took place around 5 p.m.

A. Dinesh (26) and R. Balamurugan (24), both from Manjakuttai in Yercaud, along with five other workers were involved in levelling the ground for construction of a hotel at a private land located opposite to the Block Development Office in Yercaud.

While doing so, a part of the 15-foot land all of a sudden caved in and they were buried under it.

Petrified by the incident other workers fled the scene.

Bodies retrieved

The public informed the Fire and Rescue Services personnel who retrieved the dead bodies.

The bodies were then taken to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.

Senior police officials and revenue officials inspected the spot and held further inquiries. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Yercaud has been witnessing heavy rains in the past two days and soil dampness could be the reason for the landslip. However, only after a detailed inquiry, the exact reason could be known, officials said.
