TV channel employee killed as car falls into ditch

R. Shalini, an employee of a private satellite channel in Chennai, was killed and four others sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in plunged into a roadside ditch near Pallapatti near here on Sunday evening.

A team of employees of the private TV channel had gone to Pallapatti to meet one of their colleagues. When they were returning to Chennai, one of the front tyres of the car burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle on Madurai-Dindigul Road, said Suresh Kumar, Inspector of Police, Ammayanaickanur.

Immediately, the car fell into the roadside ditch that was 10 feet deep. The passengers were badly injured and they were rushed to Vadipatti Government Hospital, where Shalini was declared brought dead.

The other occupants of the car have been referred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
