Tuticorin is fifth in State

Tuticorin district has recorded a pass percentage of 95.5 in the Plus Two examinations, and secured the fifth place in the State in pass percentage.

Though the district has retained the same position in the pass percentage in the State this year, the percentage has come down from 95.72 recorded last year. As many as 19,651 students from 165 higher secondary schools across the district appeared for the examinations and 18,766 students cleared them, Tuticorin Chief Educational Officer K. Munusamy said.

Girl students have outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 97.65. The boys have recorded a pass percentage of 92.79.

In the district, Tuticorin educational district has achieved a pass percentage of 96.26, and Kovilpatti educational district 94.

Top scorers

G. Karthick, a student of Spic Nagar Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, has topped the district with a total of 1,187. He has scored centum in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, 194 marks in Tamil and 193 in English. He wants to take up medicine and become a cardiologist.

V. Geethanjali, a student of Ravilla KRA Vidyashram Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kovilpatti, has secured the second place in the district with a score of 1,182 marks. She scored full mark in Chemistry, 199 marks in Mathematics, 198 in Biology, 196 each in Physics and English, and 193 in Tamil. P. Pooja Swetha of St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, has secured the third place with a total score of 1,179 marks. She has got full mark in Chemistry, 199 marks in Mathematics, 197 in Physics, 195 each in Biology and English, and 193 in Tamil.

N. Gomathy of BMC Matriculation School, Tuticorin, who has taken French as the first language, has scored 1,183 marks.

Collector M. Ravikumar, principals, headmasters and correspondents of the respective schools congratulated the students.
