Artisans to transform 60 trees along ‘Girivalam’ path

Nearly 60 trees that died due to pest attack along the ‘Girivalam’ path are now getting an artistic touch.

Instead of uprooting the trees, the district administration has decided to transform the dead trees into pieces of art, and has engaged artisans to create carvings on the wood.

In April this year, several trees along the ‘Girivalam’ path were found dead.

“As part of the Girivalam path development project, we were thinking of installing interesting sculptures along the path. But then we thought why not use the dead trees, instead of cutting them down. We looked around for artisans involved in wood carving and brought them to Tiruvannamalai,” Collector K.S. Kandasamy said. Work to carve different designs on the wood had begun, he said, adding there were 60 such trees.
