October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Tension prevailed at Ervadi on Thursday evening after a Bharatiya Janata Party functionary was attacked. Police said three unidentified persons hired the auto of R. Muthuraman (35) of Perumpaththu near Ervadi in Tirunelveli district, who is the Kalakkad union secretary of BJP, on Thursday evening. When they were going towards Nanguneri with Muthuraman driving the auto, the trio allegedly attacked him with a sickle in which he sustained four cut injuries and was rushed to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. As the news spread, tension gripped Ervadi and the surrounding areas and police personnel were deployed to prevent untoward incidents. When the BJP cadres tried to block traffic on Ervadi – Nanguneri Road around 8.30 p.m., the police pacified them. Ervadi police are investigating.
