Saran (9), s/o Arumugam, a labourer of Periyankuppam village near Ambur was killed when a tree branch fell on him following heavy winds in the premises of the private school in nearby Sanrorkuppam on Tuesday evening.
According to the police, the boy was hit when he ran towards his father who had come to take home. He sustained injuries and was rushed to the Government Hospital, Ambur, where he was given first aid and was shifted to the Government Vellore Medical Hospital, Adukkamparai. But he died on the wayl. The body was sent to the GH, Ambur for post mortem.
The relatives of the boy blocked the road in front of the GH in Ambur on Wednesday and refused the body to be taken to the village after post mortem, demanding adequate compensation to the family. They said that two siblings of Saran — a brother and a sister—were also studying in the same school. Priyadharshini, District Education Officer, Tirupattur and the Inspector of Police reached the spot and held talks with the agitators and the representatives of the school management. The agitators allowed the body to be taken out only after an assurance on compensation.
The school management paid compensation of Rs.8 lakhs to the family.
