Treasury officials strike affects work

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

District treasury and seven sub treasuries in Tiruvannamalai district got paralysed on Tuesday as officials went on mass casual leave, protesting against the director of their department.

D. Jayakumar, District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Treasury Officials Association told The Hindu that the protest was successful.

He said that Muniyanathan, director of their department, who conducted a review meeting on first of this month in Chennai had been so harsh towards Additional Treasury Officer Murthi from Madurai that the official collapsed in the meeting itself.

Instead of suspending the meeting on seeing an official collapse, the director just evacuated him from the hall and continued with the meeting. Eventually Mr. Murthi died in a hospital soon.

“We bear with the enormous work burden. But how can one digest this kind of inhuman attitude. So, we demand departmental action against Mr. Muniyanathan and his transfer. This is part of a State-wide protest on Tuesday,” Mr. Jayakumar said.
