R. Nasriya, a 23-year-old transperson constable who attempted suicide on Monday over alleged harassment at her workplace , joined duty on Friday after getting discharged from the hospital.
“I am happy to resume duty and am looking forward to serving in the police force,” she said. When she alleged harassment, Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Meena shifted her from the Armed Reserve police wing to the passport verification cell.
She was absent from duty for more then 21 days. After she was served a ‘desertion notice,’ she reported for duty on Monday but attempted suicide the same night, alleging harassment by three personnel, whom she named in the complaint.
Report awaited
The SP directed the Ramanathapuram DSP to inquire into the allegations and he is yet to submit the report, the police said.
Nasriya was the first member of the third gender to join the Police Department in the district.
