May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - COONOOR:

“With more reports relating to irregularities involving former Agriculture Minister Agri Krishnamoorthy surfacing , there is a pertinent need to transfer the case relating to the suicide executive engineer Muthukumarasamy to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),” Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin said on Saturday.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy, was dropped from the Cabinet, his party positions were taken away and the CB-CID arrested him on charges of forcing Muthukumarasamy to commit suicide. Subsequently, his bail applications were dismissed twice by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

Mr. Stalin said there had been reports of irregularities in the Horticulture Department too. So, it was time that the case was transferred from the CB-CID to the CBI. The DMK would soon meet the Governor to apprise him of the deteriorating law and order situation and increasing crimes in the State.

On the possibility of the DMK aligning with the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) during the Assembly elections scheduled for next year, Mr. Stalin said DMK president M. Karunanidhi would take an appropriate decision at the right time. When asked about the likely outcome in the disproportionate assets case against AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, Mr. Stalin said the question should be posed to the Karnataka High Court Judge.

Earlier, Mr. Stalin distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs 23 lakh and education materials to the tune of Rs 4 lakh to 1,367 students from 25 schools.
