Training in weed management

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - NAMAKKAL:

With weed management playing a major role in increasing the productivity of sugarcane, farmers in Malayampalayam in Tiruchengode Taluk were trained on the methods to prevent infection.

The Salem branch of Agrochemical Major in association with Ponni Sugars, Erode, organised a training programme for farmers on the use of Sempra herbicide in sugarcane field. Officials explained that sugarcane crops are highly infected by sedge weed that affects the yield. Hence farmers are asked to spray the herbicide at 36 grams per acre. Also, the farmers were explained about the mode of action, stages of application, other crops recommended, rain fastness and effect on succeeding crops.
