Traders robbed of Rs. 11 lakh

Three traders from Mumbai were robbed of Rs. 11 lakh and a cheque worth Rs. 10 lakh by two persons here on Tuesday night.

Rajkumar Lamba (56) of GTC Nagar in Mumbai was involved in trading of construction materials.

He along with friends Hemanth and Chetan arrived in Salem for purchase of materials and was staying at a private hotel on Five Road.

On Tuesday, Chandrasekar and Rajasekar of Salem met them and said that a land is available for sale at low cost on the outskirts of the city. The three along with Chandrasekar and Rajasekar were on their way to visit the land at Ayothiapattanam.

Two persons, one in police uniform and the other in army uniform, intercepted their vehicle and said that they need to check the vehicle.

While checking the vehicle, the two took away the cash and cheque and asked them to come to the police station.

They two took Rajkumar, Hemanth and Chetan in their vehicle and were on their way to Minnampalli.

After travelling for few km. both pushed the traders out of the vehicle and fled the scene. Chandrasekar and Rajasekar also went missing after the incident.

Rajkumar lodged a complaint with the Karipatti police who registered a case. It was revealed that Chandrasekar and Rajasekar along with two others had cheated the traders and escaped with the money.

Woman robbed

A 40-year-old woman suffered injuries in hand after a three-member unidentified gang entered her house, inflicted injuries and robbed her of 15 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs. 10,000 from her residence in Komarapalayam here on Tuesday.

The police said that Senthil Kumar (42), a power loom owner, was married to Revathi and were residing along the bypass road.

At 5 a.m., after Senthil Kumar left for walking, Revathi did not lock the door and was working in the kitchen.

The gang entered the house injured her and snatched the jewellery she was wearing and took away the cash and fled the scene. She raised alarm and neighbours rushed her to a private hospital in Erode. The police are investigating.

Jewellery recovered

The Tiruchengode Town police arrested four persons and recovered 30 sovereign gold jewellery that they had stolen from a house in the area last month.

Unidentified persons entered the house of Kailasanathan (40) in the foothills area of the temple and took away 30 sovereign gold jewellery and Rs. 2.5 lakh from the house on September 6.

During vehicle checks, the police team intercepted two motorcycles with four persons. Inquiries revealed that they were involved in the burglary.

The police arrested Karthi (25) of Tiruchengode, Manikandan (25) of Attayampatty, Satheesh (25) of Sendamangalam and Prabakaran (26) of the same area. Search is on for two others.

Two get 7 years jail

Chief Judicial Magistrate P. Elango sentenced two persons to seven years imprisonment for robbing a person at knife point.

The prosecution case is that Sekar (37) of Nethimedu used to transport household items in his two-wheeler. On December 15, 2013, while he was on Itteri Road, two persons intercepted him and took away all the products at knife point. Based on his complaint, the Annathanapatti police arrested Abdulkalam (33) and Sherif (37) of Kitchipalayam. They were lodged at Salem Central Prison and later released on bail. However, they failed to appear in the court during the trial as the Magistrate issued arrest warrant. The police arrested the two and lodged them in prison.
