T.R. Baalu urges EC to file appeal in R.K. Nagar by-election case

DMK Parliamentary Party leader T.R. Baalu on Wednesday urged the Election Commission of India to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the order of the Madras High Court quashing the FIR filed in connection with distribution of money to voters in the by-election to the R.K. Nagar Assembly constituency in 2017.

In a representation to the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra, he alleged that the FIR was quashed because of the collusion between the police and the Chief Electoral Officer and Returning Officer.

Mr. Baalu also recalled his earlier petition in this regard and reminded the Election Commission that no action had been taken so far.

“If the EC fails to pull up or take action against the erring officials and remedy the grave irregularities committed by them, it will be a dark day in the annals of Indian democracy,” he said.
