TNSTC bus confiscated for failure to compensate accident victim

A bus belonging to Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was confiscated from the bus stand here on Monday for non-payment of compensation in an accident case.

The accident involving a van in which Eashwaran of Chengapalli and others travelled and a bus plying between Kumuli and Theni took place in 1999.

Two persons were killed and a few others injured in the accident.

Five petitions were filed in Erode court for compensation, of which only two were compensated.

Not settled

Since the compensation of Rs. 69,745 ordered to be paid to Eashwaran during 2002 was not settled by the TNSTC, he had approached the Second Additional District Court.

On Monday, Judge N. Palanichamy ordered confiscation of the TNSTC bus for non-payment of compensation.
