Tamil Nadu Police has stepped up efforts to arrest absconding Puducherry Education Minister P M L Kalyanasundaram, who is mired in a copying scandal.
The Minister, facing charges of using a proxy to write his SSLC examination at a Centre in Tamil Nadu in September, has been evading arrest since the Madras High Court on Tuesday rejected his anticipatory bail petition.
Police sources said teams of Tamil Nadu Police are camping in different pockets in the union territory of Puducherry to arrest Mr. Kalyanasundaram. They have also sought cooperation of their Puducherry counterparts.
Vehicles entering Puducherry through different points were also being checked by the Tamil Nadu Police to locate the Minister.
Tamil Nadu Police has in the meanwhile, taken into custody two persons at Markanam on Tuesday for interrogation.
The duo had reportedly travelled along with Mr. Kalyanasundaram.
While Mr. Kalyanasundaram had given the slip to the police by switching the vehicle at Alapakkam village, the other two occupants were detained by police after intercepting the car.
A school dropout, Mr. Kalyanasundaram had allegedly engaged a proxy to impersonate him at the SSLC examination in Tindivanam on September 29.
On a complaint from the education authorities, Villupuram District Crime Branch police filed cases against him under different sections of IPC.
Police had subsequently moved the Judicial Magistrate Court at Tindivanam on October 28 for directions to Mr. Kalyanasundaram to turn up for enquiry either before the court or the police.
When the case came up for hearing on November 2, the Minister, who was present, had been directed to appear before it again on November 11 for questioning.
Seeking to corner the AINRC Government headed by N Rangasamy, opposition Congress and AIADMK have demanded the sacking of Mr. Kalyanasundaram.
