T.N. allowed deputation, says Archana

Archana Ramasundaram, a Tamil Nadu-cadre IPS officer whose posting as Additional Director of the CBI has led to a controversy, told the Supreme Court on Thursday that the State government agreed to her deputation to the Centre last October.

In her response to an application filed by the Tamil Nadu government to implead in a case filed by Vineet Narain, journalist, challenging her appointment, Ms. Ramasundaram said she had merely obeyed the directions of the Centre and joined the investigation agency. The State has no locus standi in the case.

She said when the Centre issued orders directing her to join the CBI immediately, she had no option but to obey the orders. The case comes up for further hearing on July 21.
