Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) leader G.K. Vasan has welcomed the State government’s decision to implement reservation in the upcoming local body polls for certain types of differently-abled persons.

“Differently-abled persons and those with leprosy could not contest in the local body polls in Tamil Nadu earlier. This G.O. has ensured equal rights and opportunities for the differently-abled,” Mr. Vasan said in a statement.

The number of differently-abled persons and those with leprosy are about one lakh in the State, he said and added many of them were keen to contest in the local body polls. “This is an example of the good measures initiated by the Tamil Nadu government,” he felt.
