District Election Officer and Collector K.S. Kandasamy on Tuesday conducted a mock polling to ensure proper functioning of the polling units after completing first level checking of electronic voting machines — control units, blot units and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines.

Representatives of recognised political parties and election department officials were present at the mock polling station organised at the strong room inside the old Collectorate building in Vengikal in Tiruvannamalai.

The district had completed checking of 1,635 ballot units, 835 control units in April this year after the completion of poll process held for Tiruvannamalai Parliamentary Constituency.

The Tiruvannamalai district comprises four municipalities namely — Tiruvannamalai, Arni, Cheyyar and Vandavasi; 10 town panchayats — Chengam, Pudhupalayam, KeezhPennathur, Vettavalam, Polur, Kannamangalam, Kalambur, Chetpet, Peranamallur and Desur and 18 panchayat unions.

The district has 19,74, 940 voters. While the municipal and town panchayat voters account for 3,62,232, there are 1,61,2708 voters from village panchayats.

There are about 3,900 polling stations in the district and of them 3,520 would be in villages, which forms part of the panchyat unions.
