Tirunelveli Collector denies charges

March 22, 2012 01:45 am | Updated July 21, 2016 03:15 am IST - KUDANKULAM:

Tirunelveli Collector R. Selvaraj has denied media reports that supply of essential commodities to Idinthakarai, where the anti-nuclear energy protesters had assembled, had been cut off.

Addressing a press conference organised here, Mr. Selvaraj said that supply of milk, vegetables and water through tankers continued to the coastal village. “If at all there was any disturbance in maintaining the supply it was only because of the cutting of roads leading to Idinthakarai and creation of road blockades by the protesters,” he said. The roads had been blocked by placing boulders and pillars.

“We are ready to help the villagers in maintaining supply of all essential commodities,” Mr. Selvaraj said. The Collector also added that the district administration was ready to ply additional buses for the benefit of the students of Idinthakarai appearing for the Plus Two examinations.
