The stage is set for the Republic Day celebrations in The Nilgiris.

According to official sources, in view of the Republic Day holiday facilitating an extended weekend, vigil has been stepped up in the district.

Since tourist spots such as the Government Botanical Garden and the Ooty Lake are more crowded than usual an elaborate security plan has been put in place.

Vehicle checks

Vehicle checks had been intensified and special teams were keeping an eye on hotels and lodges.

A close watch was also being kept on vital installations and places such as the defence establishments at Wellington and Aruvankadu, the sources added.
