Three woodcutters-cum-poachers were arrested by Forest Department personnel from the Bargur forests on Tuesday.

The team seized a two-metre log, a rifle, two axes, a knife and steel wires from Madesan, Venkatachalam and Gopalan.

A team led by the Forest Ranger Alagesan rounded up the three in a remote location in Thattakarai beat in North Bargur reserve forest.

The accused, first-time offenders, belonged to habitations on the other side of the Bargur hills in Mettur area of neighbouring Salem district.

They had confessed to have hunted down deers and wild fowls in the past in the Bargur forests. Forest Department officials remanded them in judicial custody.
