Three persons detained under Goondas Act

Two persons, S. Esakkimuthu (24) of Sundarapandiapuram near Tenkasi and his associate M. Kumar (30) of Thattankulam, who allegedly smuggled 1.50 tonnes of ration rice, were detained under the Goondas Act.

An official statement said that Esakkimuthu and Kumar were nabbed on September 24 when they were smuggling 1.50 tonnes of ration rice in a cargo autorickshaw. Since the two, who were remanded in judicial custody after being produced before the judge, had been involved in a similar crime in the past, Collector M. Karunakaran ordered their detention under the Goondas Act.

The detention order was served on them at Palayamkottai Central Prison on Wednesday, the statement said. Similarly, V. Madasamy (28) of Kurichi under Melapalayam police station limits in Tirunelveli city was detained under the Goondas Act as he was involved in several crimes, including murder, attempt to murder and threatening the public.

Commissioner of Police (In-Charge), Tirunelveli City, S. Murugan on Thursday issued the detention order.
