Three held under Goondas Act

Three out of the 11 persons arrested by the Food Cell Criminal Investigation Department at Vaniyambadi on January 10 for smuggling of rice meant for the public distribution system were booked under the Goondas Act on the orders of the Vellore District Collector R. Nanthagopal on Thursday.

According to the Food Cell CID sources, it seized 420 bags of PDS rice from a lorry which it intercepted on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway at Vaniyambadi on January 10 and arrested 11 persons in that connection.

Three persons booked under the Goondas Act were J. Christopher (50), Vijay alias Vijayan (43) and Narayanan, Assistant Quality Inspector and officer in charge of the TNCSC godown in Red Hills.
