Thousands perform pujas for ancestors

Thousands of people from different parts of the district thronged Triveni Sangamam in Kanyakumari for taking a holy dip after performing pujas in memory of their ancestors in view of Thai Amavasai on Tuesday.

The sanctum sanctorum of Bhagavathy Amman Temple was opened for special pujas at 3.30 a.m.

The presiding deity, Bhagavathy Amman, was adorned with diamond and gold ornaments. The northern gate of the temple was opened at 4.30 a.m. for devotees.

People who could not go to Kanyakumari took bath in rivers and temple tanks near their habitations after performing pujas to their ancestors. Special pujas and abishekams were performed to presiding deities in various temples in the district. Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation operated special buses from various destinations to Kanyakumari.

Tuticorin

Many people thronged the beaches in the district, took a holy dip and offered prayers for their ancestors.

In Tuticorin, a large number of people congregated on Threspuram and Harbour area beaches.

Special pujas were performed in Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur, where thousands of devotees took a holy dip in the sea.

People also thronged waterbodies in Eral and its surroundings to offer pujas on the occasion of Thai Amavasai.
