A tense situation continued in Pothanur village of Paramathi Velur Taluk after the house of a farmer was set on fire by miscreants here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Additional police force was posted to prevent untoward incidents.

Dispute broke between members of two communities over the conduct of festival at Vellakkal Mariamman Temple in the village recently. It led to members belonging to a particular community vandalising the houses and banana crops of another community. The police arrested 21 persons involved in the act.

A peace meeting was held on Tuesday night in which members of both the communities agreed not to indulge in violence and to ensure peace in the village.

However, the house of Natarajan (55) was set on fire by miscreants in which the kitchen was completely gutted. With tension prevailing, police began patrol in the village.
