Three persons, including a youth and his uncle, were murdered near Alangulam on Saturday afternoon, in a retaliatory attack.

The murders triggered tension in Alangulam, about 30 km from here, on the Tenkasi highway.

The victims were identified as N. Vaithiyalingam (42), a murder case accused, and his uncle M. Pooraja (60) of Nallur, and D. Selvaraj (50) of Kaasiyapuram. No arrest has been made so far.

Trouble began after a group of unidentified persons attacked Poolpandian (50), Muthupandi (58) and Gopal, all from Sivalaarkulam near Alangulam, when they were asleep in a farm near their village on Friday night. Within a few minutes, the gang also attacked Esakkimuthu of Kuththapaanjaan. The condition of the four was said to be stable. In retaliation, a group of 24 youngsters, on motorbikes, went on an attacking spree. Additional police forces were deployed in sensitive areas.
