Temporary workers to be appointed

The district administration has decided to appoint 574 temporary workers to carry out anti-dengue operations across the district.

A meeting to chart out strategies for preventing the outbreak of diseases was held at the collectorate with officials from all the departments participating.

Chairing the meeting, Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy said that temporary workers were already appointed to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and to create awareness among the people.

In order to expedite the process, 574 workers would be appointed, he added.

Each of the five municipalities would have five field-level officers to monitor 25 teams, 10 town panchayats would have 38 teams, 75 teams to carry out work in village panchayats and 20 special teams for all the blocks.

Hence, a total of 158 teams comprising 790 workers would carryout the anti-dengue operations, he added.

The Collector said that special camps were being held in all primary health centres to screen people with fever after which teams will visit their houses and carryout appropriate measures.

Also, cleaning of drains, overhead tanks, diluting chlorine powder in the drinking water and prevent breeding of Aedes mosquito was being carried out.

Villagers were also given Nilavembu Kashayam and free blood test was also conducted at District Headquarters Hospital for people suspecting of having dengue.

Also, fever-prone areas were identified and fogging operations were being carried out.
