Telecom employees stage protest

Alleging that the deficiencies in operational infrastructure and staff shortage in telephone exchanges in Tirupur and nearby areas are not getting addressed, the BSNL Employees Union members staged an agitation here.

Union assistant secretary (Tamil Nadu circle) S. Subramanian told reporters that many of the telephone exchanges like the ones at Peruntholuvu and Mudalipalayam did not have security guards during the night hours. According to the staff, lots of vacancies arisen after the retirement of employees are yet to be filled up.

Another allegation was that the organisation offices here face shortage of cables and telephone sets to give land phone connections.
