A team of officials from Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Tuticorin, paid a visit to a Non Residential Special Training Centre (NRSTC), which has been set up at Threspuram, Tuticorin Urban Block, here on Monday.

The team led by District Coordinator, Out of School Children programme, SSA, Tuticorin, M. Koodalingam, took stock of the facilities available at the centre.

The care-taker of the centre had been instructed to maintain necessary records. “The dropout students in this centre should be given free notebooks and uniform sets on a par with students of government and aided schools.”

During the current academic year, 973 dropouts had been identified from 13 blocks in the district.

Among the dropouts identified, 604 were boys and 369 girls.

During the previous academic year, a total of 1,046 dropouts, including 635 boys and 411 girls, were identified. In 2013-14, 1,185 children dropped out of schools.

The enumerators had identified 1,191 dropouts during 2012-13, he said. Tuticorin Urban Block Coordinator, Muthukumar and Block Supervisor, A. Sekar were present.
