The Village Panchayat Tank Operators and Sanitary Workers’ Association on Friday presented a ‘petition’ to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the City Corporation Office.

Ignoring the demands of the association members for monthly salary of Rs. 10,000, special permission for employees to work till they attain 65 years, pension for those had put in a minimum of 10 years of service, and job security and permanency for those appointed after 2000 was tantamount to dishonouring Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on attention on village development for equitable development, E.V.K. Shamugam, representative of the Association, said.
