A tank operator, who diverted water meant for supply to municipal area, to his house was placed under suspension on Wednesday.
Recently, residents in Thummankurichi requested collector V. Dakshinamoorthy to supply adequate drinking water to them as there is an acute shortage.
Hence, a tanker lorry with water was sent to the area for supplying to the people.
But, R. Murugesan, who is in charge of supplying water through the overhead tank in the area, diverted the lorry to his house and filled the tank.
Residents besieged the lorry. The lorry driver M. Senthil Kumar was transferred.
